Escape to Colorado: A Perfect Blend of Adventure and Relaxation
My husband and I have always wanted to attend a concert at the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre, known for its natural acoustics and breathtaking views. So we decided to turn this long-held dream into a summer getaway while also exploring the surrounding area of Beaver Creek, Colorado, a destination that promises cooler temperatures and an even cooler vibe.
During the summer, this area has a constant schedule of events – concerts, performances, art shows, bike races, and farmer’s markets to name a few. There literally is something for everyone!
Our stay at the charming Poste Montane Lodge was nothing short of delightful. Nestled in the heart of Beaver Creek Village, this quaint, historic lodge exudes the warmth and hospitality of a traditional European inn. The convenience of having everything at our doorstep, from gourmet dining to boutique shopping to the mountain chair lifts, made the experience even more enjoyable.
The location of Poste Montane Lodge is ideal for outdoor enthusiasts. We rented e-bikes from Evoke Outdoors in Minturn and rode into Vail Village, known for its alpine ambiance and European-inspired architecture. The ride was on scenic mountain trails that often followed cool streams. Once in Vail, we moved on to explore the adjacent Lionshead Village, where we enjoyed a traditional Bavarian lunch—complete with pretzels, sausages, and, of course, a pint of local craft beer. Afterward, we spent the afternoon browsing through the local boutiques and galleries.
The following morning, we amped up the adventure with a white-water rafting trip booked through Sage Outdoor Adventures, a reputable year-round adventure company in the Vail area. Our guide was knowledgeable and made sure everyone in our group of eight was well-prepared before we hit the water. The experience of navigating the Shoshone River in rushing class III rapids while surrounded by towering canyon walls and lush greenery was exhilarating and is something I would highly recommend to any adventure seeker visiting the area. Being a nature lover, spotting a few bighorn sheep from the river was an added bonus!
Time to move on to Red Rocks Amphitheatre to catch a concert at sunset. The venue, carved out of the natural rock formations, offers an unparalleled concert experience. As the sun dipped below the horizon, the music surrounded the amphitheater, creating a magical atmosphere. It's no wonder that Red Rocks is considered one of the country's best and most iconic concert venues.
Our weekend in Beaver Creek was the perfect blend of relaxation, adventure, scenic nature, and unforgettable experiences. From the cozy lodge and the charming villages to the thrilling outdoor activities and the magical concert at Red Rocks, this trip had it all.I highly recommend the mountains of Colorado for a standout adventure vacation!
Pro Tip: When traveling back into Denver on I-70, be sure to start your journey early, especially on weekends/Sunday. Traffic can get extremely heavy and cause long delays.
