Savvy Traveler Tip: Gearing Up for Your Next Adventure
Are you ready for your next big adventure but lacking essential gear? I've been there too. From hiking the ancient trails of Machu Picchu to exploring the frozen landscapes of Iceland, having the right equipment can make or break your trip. And who doesn't love a bargain, especially if you don't plan to use the gear often?
On my Machu Picchu hike, I wanted pants with zip-off legs that converted to shorts to adjust to the changing temps. In Iceland, water and windproof snow pants and travel towels for the thermal hot springs were on the list. While traveling through Europe, I needed a secure, anti-theft cross-body bag to guard against pickpockets.
Let me say that although I wish I got paid to promote these products, I do not. These are just two of my favorite go-to sites for gearing up:
Travelon products are awesome! Based in Chicago, Travelon sells cleverly designed luggage, totes, wallets, purses, carry-ons, and many more travel accessories.
Not only are Travelon products stylish and durable, but they also come packed with security features. The straps and bags have built-in wire mesh to prevent thieves from slicing straps, sturdy zippers that clip shut for extra security, and RFID-protected inner pockets. Some bags also have water bottle holders.
These features give peace of mind, allowing you to enjoy your trip without worrying about your belongings, and are reasonably priced.
2. Sierra
Many of us in the southern half of the US are unfamiliar with Sierra. Sierra Trading Post became part of the TJX family in 2012 and was shortened to “Sierra.” With brick-and-mortar locations only in the northern half of the US, the rest of us can still shop online for fantastic deals on top brands like Merrell, Chaco, The North Face, Sofibella, Columbia, Body Glove, Fjallraven - and even some Travelon products - to name a few of their many brands.
Sierra’s inventory covers a wide range of activities, including fishing, camping, hiking, biking, water sports, running, and fitness. My first visit to a Sierra store in Boise, Idaho, was too short—I could have spent hours browsing their extensive selection and unbeatable prices, and would love for them to open locations in Arizona!
Conclusion
Finding the right gear can truly enhance your travel experience. Plus saving money on gear means you have more to spend on your trip.
